BATTLE LAKE, Minn. — The 14-year-old who died Thursday, Dec. 10, after being attacked by his family’s dog in rural Battle Lake has been identified by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office as Deon Bush.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, the boy’s father called a sheriff’s deputy to do a welfare check after Bush did not return home from walking the family’s three dogs shepherds, according to sheriff’s Lt. Keith Van Dyke.

Bush was found deceased in the family’s yard, and when deputies arrived, the dog was “extremely aggressive” toward the deputies, according to the release. Due to public safety concerns, and at the owner’s request, the dog was put down, and the remains were taken to North Dakota State University for testing to determine whether disease played a role in the animal’s behavior.
